Description
Described by interviewer Carla Ehat as a “San Francisco gentleman,” Harry Renebome was born across from the Fairmont Hotel in the late 1890s. Moving to San Francisco to Marin County was a family tradition begun by his grandfather, who relocated to accommodate his produce and dairy business. As a teenager, Harry moved to San Rafael with his family after his asthmatic father’s doctors recommended a change in climate. His recollections include vivid memories of San Rafael at the beginning of the twentieth century, with descriptions of Fourth Street, San Rafael High School, the Meadow Club, and other landmarks. Harry also provides anecdotes about local personalities and prominent families, such as the Fosters, the Christiansons, and the Dollars.
