Description
James, a long-time resident of Marin, is the son of a history Professor at Stanford, and was himself educated at Stanford and Harvard Universities. James was a WWI flyer and served in the Navy during WWII. He was involved with the American Legion, served as President of the local Boy Scouts, President of the Meadow Club, Chairman of "Save the Trains and Ferries," Trustee of the Katherine Branson School, and an editor of Old Marin With Love. He lent his time in the Juvenile Court as a referee; in the Prison ministry of the Episcopal Diocese of California; and at the Marin County Historical Society.
From 1974 to 1984, Carla Ehat, with partner Anne Kent, and later Genevieve Martinelli, interviewed a broad spectrum of Marin County's long-time residents, from ranchers to politicians, including descendants of early pioneer families. This program was co-sponsored by the Marin County Free Library and the Moya Library in Ross. The resulting archive, consisting of nearly 300 recordings and their corresponding transcriptions, are housed in the Anne T. Kent California Room at the Civic Center branch of the Marin County Free Library.
