Title supplied by cataloger. At least 20 workers were trapped in an aqueduct tunnel near Sylmar, Calif., after a natural gas explosion. The workers were constructing part of a five-mile tunnel for the Department of Water and Power. Photograph caption reads: "Service shaft where rescuers are trying to reach men in tunnel. Crane at left is raising and lowering large cage filled with rescue workers and investigators trying to reach victims in San Fernando water tunnel. Shaft is situated about midway along 5 1/2 mile tunnel now filled with poisonous gasses. Large pipe protruding from shaft acts as an exhaust for deadly fumes". Photograph dated: June 25,1971.
