Lydia A. Baily was born in Little Platte, Wisconsin in 1835 to Benjamin and Lucinda (Durley) Coates. Married James G. Baily in 1854. She came to overland to California in 1854. Lived in variety of cities - Reservoir Hill, Smith's Flat, Shingle Springs, San Francisco, Placerville. Worked as school teacher.
