Caption reads, "Nearly 200 water skiing enthusiasts took part in the first annual Polar Bear Day, sponsored by a Sacramento ski shop, and tried to demonstrate that it's just as much fun to skim across Folsom Lake on New Year's Day as it is in mid-summer. The water was about 44 degrees, according to one participant who came armed with a thermometer."
