Description
This circa-1918 photo depicts early residents of Carmichael. The area had been part of the 44,000-acre Rancho San Juan land grant that Mexico bestowed upon pioneer Eliab Grimes in 1844. It wasn’t until the founding of Daniel Carmichael’s Carmichael Colonies Number One and Two in 1911 that settlement began in earnest.
