"Situated near Poughkeepsie in Dutchess County, state of New York. Erected and open for public education. A.D. 1864. Matthew Vassar, Founder. James Renwick Jr. Architect. William Harloe, Builder. Entered according to Act of Congress in the year 1862 by Egidius C. Winter in the Clerk's Office of the District Court for the Southern District of New York."--text, bottom center margin.
