Photograph caption dated October 19, 1962 reads, "Valley Times TODAY staff members, from left, Larry Paulson, Mayerene Barker, Jack Langguth, Joan Dew and Robert Martin captured three first place writing awards and two honorable mentions in the 1962 Los Angeles Press Club Journalism Awards competition. Langguth finished first in the feature story of series category, Paulson received a first place local column award, while Miss Dew placed first for a story on feminine beauty. Martin's honorable mention was for a sports picture, and Miss Barker received an honorable mention for a story on home economics and home service."
