The Clarence W. Pierce School of Agriculture is a two-year community college in Woodland Hills, California. It opened in September 1947, with 70 students and 18 faculty members and is part of the Los Angeles Community College District. The school's initial focus was crop cultivation and animal husbandry, and still retains a large swatch of open fields for hands-on working farm training. In 1956 the school was renamed Los Angeles Pierce College. Photograph caption dated May 12, 1958 reads "John B. Shepard, left, director of Pierce Junior College, accepts championship class Angus calf, Black Chief 21 H.F., from Mrs. Ellen Kersey, wife of Pierce dean Vierling Kersey Jr., and their daughter, Ann, 7. Calf is gift to school from Mrs. Kersey's uncle, Dr. Robert A. Cooke of Eatontown, N. J. Examining animal is Al Cleveland head of school's agriculture department. Animal weighs 700 pounds, is nine months old. It comes from physician's farm."
