A taxi dancer is a professional dance partner, typically young women, hired by male patrons to dance with them on a dance-by-dance basis. The dancer's pay is proportional to the time she spends with the patron.
Photograph caption dated July 22, 1979 reads, "Patron at Morrie's Ballroom picks partner from bevy of hostesses. Dance prices usually are monitored on a minute-to-minute basis." Adjoining information on clipping reads, "Admission $1.00 - .18 (cents) 1 min. - $10.80 1 hr."
