Photograph of a deep pit being prepared for the construction of City Garage in Pershing Square, Los Angeles, 1951. The large rectangular pit is at center, and a ramp leads down into it from the street at left. Several cars are parked near the base of the ramp at left. Large trucks can be seen moving construction supplies at right. Stacks of lumber and pipes can be seen throughout the pit. Tall buildings, including a Union Pacific station, can be seen around the edges of the pit in the background.
