“Miss Hood and some of the boarders, 1937.” Group portrait of female students and teacher standing on a sports field. Miss Ina Hood, M.A. was seconded from Tumutumu in 1936 to work in girls' education and training. The girl boarders were often the daughters of Christian converts who wished to avoid the traditional initiation ceremonies, the training also provided them with employable skills. ❧ The image is from the collection of Dr Archibald Clive Irvine (1893-1974) showing the period from 1928-1947 at the Chogoria mission which was established near Mt Kenya, in 1922, and run by Dr Irvine.
