This photograph is contained in one of two volumes by Dobbin titled "Album of San Francisco."
Text written below and to sides of photo: "Union Iron Works including foundry, Mission & First Sts. NW cor., 1877. Irving M. Scott President & Manager. 'Sidney Jim' Teamster with his 'Spike team'[referring to horses and wagon seen in front of building]. Union Iron Works-Mission Street from First to Fremont with frontage of 275 feet on each of the last two streets-The half of the lot nearest First street is covered with a brick building three stories high. Owners- G.W. PRESCOTT, IRVING M. SCOTT, HENRY T. SCOTT. Firm name-Prescott, Scott and Company. Office of the works was on extreme right of the picture-N-E. corner Mission & First St."
