Description
Photograph of the beach in front of the Pleasure Pier in Santa Monica, ca.1925. The beach is in the foreground and is crowded with people resting under umbrellas or playing in the waves. There is a wide sidewalk bordering the beach at left. The left side of the walkway is lined with an assortment of buildings. The pier is in the background at right and several structures are built on it, including a billiards and bowling hall and a large wooden rollercoaster. Another pier (the Venice Ocean Park Pier) is visible further down the beach at center. Legible signs include, from left to right, "For Sale or Lease this choice ocean frontage [...] 10 Lots [...] 500 Feet [...] Municipal Pier Investment Co.", "Palace Bathing Car Co.", "Pop Corn", "Parking", and "Bowling and Billiards".
