Photograph of burros loaded with firewood at Fort Marcy, Santa Fe, New Mexico, ca.1895-1900. The six loaded burros and their handler stand in the middle of the wide dirt street. Telegraph or power lines run up both sides of the street. A wooden strut tower houses an alarm bell for the fire department below at right. A single pedestrian stands on the board sidewalk near a hydrant in front of the commercial buildings which shaded by large trees at left. Other buildings are visible at right. Legible signs include: "City [...] office", ..."f Fire Dpt.", "Bal[...] Av[...] plu"..., "New light"..., ..."battle ax"....
