Description
The Stanford-Lathrop Memorial Home for Friendless Children sits at the southeast corner of Eighth and N Streets in this circa 1910 postcard. Originally belonging to capitalist Leland Stanford, the home was ceded, in 1900, to the Catholic Diocese of Sacramento for use as an orhpanage. It was sold to the State of California in 1978 and remained an orphanage until 1987.
