Description
Photograph of a painting by Exavdi depicting Santa Clara repelling the Saracens, British Museum, [s.d.]. Santa Clara is at left with her nuns, all of whom are dressed in dark robes and hoods. The saint is holding the Sacred Vessel with the Most Blessed Sacrament in front of her. Two of the attacking Saracens are at right, cowering in the presence of the religious artifact. One of these men has a long pike, and another is crouching behind his shield. The city of Assisi is visible in the background, including stone walls and towers. There are people falling from arched windows, and at the top of the image, a small group of cherubs and angels is visible.
