Photograph caption dated November 22, 1963 reads, "Dr. William J. Settle, principal of the James Monroe High School in Sepulveda, receives a model of the Polaris submarine USS James Monroe which is being presented to the namesake school by Chief Electricians Mate Kenneth Ruiz, front, and Chief Engineman Arthur J. Darter. The presentation was made on behalf of the secretary of the Navy and the President of the United States."
