Description
“Pupils at Institution.” Group portrait boys of various ages posed in a large group. Dr Robert Laws (1851-1934) sits amongst them, middle left, and the person centre right is probably the Rev. James Henderson (1867-1930). The Livingstonia mission and Overtoun Institution were established in 1891 by Dr Robert Laws and was situated near the North West shore of Lake Nyasa at Khondowe. The site consisted of a school, hospital and accommodation, there were also workshops for carpentry, printing and engineering, and mills, brickworks and a pottery. ❧ Album containing photographs recording a voyage up the Shire River and scenes from the Livingstonia mission.
