Description
"Tulare (CA) Fire Company #1 was organized in 1884 by George McStay, an attorney. This 1886 photo was taken after the firefighters won the San Joaquin Valley horse cart race. The Dodson house, shown here, was on the east side of the 100 block of South K Street in Tulare, just north of Linder's. Pictured are, left to right, Seymour Johnson, Southern Pacific Railroad shop master mechanic; (?) Johnson, SP brakeman; C. Q. Gill, fire commissioner; Jesse Richardson, coupler; Samuel Herm; Fred Rosenthal, ""News Depot"" owner; three unidentified men; Edward Holland, standing against tree in the rear; unidentified man who was rail car repairman and also played shortstop on the town baseball team; J.
