Response to inquiry by Hauser's office states that Dominguez Estate Company, Carson Estate Company, and Watson Land Company leases originally held by "Japanese tenants, and none of which were alien at the time the leases were made," have been terminated, the properties released to new tenants, and all personal property sold or removed, with no provision by any of the companies made for the former tenants' return or re-occupation. Letter is not signed; title under signature line is President, with initials HHC:ml at bottom. This collection includes records of land leased to Japanese American tenants in years leading up to World War II. As such, they provide a view of California in years of the Alien Land Laws, attitudes toward Japanese Americans, and the impact of World War II.
