Description
The Southern Pacific Railroad did a survey on putting in a new railroad to Porterville, CA, in 1885. This is one of the photos. It shows the east side of Main Street between Oak and Mill streets. Porter Putnam's store is on the right and the Central Hotel is in the middle of the block. At the north end of the block was the Baker store and home. (Photo courtesy of Porterville Library)
