Description
Exterior photograph of three men; Homer King, C. O. Barker Jr., and Mr. Gondolpha posing on street during Colorado River Aqueduct celebration in Banning, California.
When the news arrived in Banning that Banning was to be Field Headquarters for the Metropolitan Water District the local Chamber of Commerce planned a big celebration for October 1931. The Colorado River Aqueduct would bring water from the Colorado River across the desert, tunnel through Mt. San Jacinto and carry the water to many Metropolitan areas of Southern California. When the aqueduct was finished in 1939 the Army took over the buildings during the 2nd World War. After the War they were bought by Mr. Taft Abras and leased to a manufacturing company, maker of women's sport wear, the ""Midwest Sports Wear Manufacturing Company."" The large garage was leased to Desert Provision Company which supplied meats, etc. to restaurants from Banning to Blythe.
