Description
The orange industry in the Porterville, CA, area began in 1895. Oranges were hauled to the E Street packing house via horse and wagon. This photo looks north on E Street in 1910. The last use of horses was in the late 1950s, and it was John Gauger who lasted longest. (Photo courtesy of Porterville Library)
