Description
Newland's header crew, San Joaquin Ranch." William Newland was one of many tenant farmers on the Irvine Ranch in the 1890s, growing thousands of acres of barley and wheat. He is shown here with his harvesting crew and a group of visitors. Newland is the bearded man knelling in the center of the photo. In 1898 he moved to his own ranch at Huntington Beach.
