Description
View of Jack Rabbit Trail, looking north. Its humble origins began when John J. McCoy, Frank A. Tatley, and M.V. Park laid out the road with minimal materials. Light travel over the road was established in 1895. Another portion of the trail is called the Bad Lands. Bad Lands occur where loose sediment meets rain. There are also steep drops off the side of the road. In desert regions, plants do little to help hold sediment in place and erosion occurs easily. This route was first called San Gorgonio Drive and later dubbed Jack Rabbit Trail by a Riverside newspaper. The road was not fully paved until 1935.
