Description
Michael Mooney arrived in Visalia, CA, in February, 1869. In March, he set up the town's first brewery in this building at the corner of Main and Garden streets. A notice in the Visalia Delta in the first week of April, 1869, announced "Have opened a brewery at Main and Garden. It is a good substitute for tea and coffee and just as cheap." Mooney brewed ale and porter. Mooney moved the brewery to 807 South Court Street in 1875. At the time this photo appeared in Harper's New Monthly Magazine (November, 1882) the building was mainly used for storage.
