Description
This is a portrait off Wiley Hinds, a former slave who in 1858 came to Farmersville, CA, with Archibald Hinds, from Arkansas. This portrait was taken in 1910 when the subject was in his 70s. Hinds owned a ranch in Farmersville as well as several sections of land in Tulare County's Yokohl Valley. He fathered 13 children and became very wealthy, dying in 1919. He and his wife are buried in the Visalia, CA, cemetery. (Photo courtesy of Marian E. King)
