Description
Exterior photographic postcard of an American Legion Auto Race held on a race track at Gilman and 22nd Streets in Banning, California. The first American Legion auto race was held July 4, 1925. The track was located on Gilman 10 acres at Ramsey Street and the head of 22nd Street, now ""West Haven Village."" Races were put on by the Legion for a number of years to raise money to build their club house on the southwest corner of Nicolet Street and San Gorgonio Avenue. George Brinton made a speed of nearly a mile a minute in a rebuilt Franklin car.
