Description
Cancelled lease, originally for 4 acres from the 349-acre tract of Rancho San Pedro, dated July 1, 1940, with handwritted annotations, one indicating its cancellation April 30, 1942, and the other stating, "tenant evacuated by U.S. Govt."
This collection includes records of land leased to Japanese American tenants in years leading up to World War II. As such, they provide a view of California in years of the Alien Land Laws, attitudes toward Japanese Americans, and the impact of World War II.
