Handwritten note on back, "Elizabeth Opper Erbes, mother, came to Hollywood (acutally, the Cahuenga Valley, then) in 1876. Ernest was born in Iowa - 1875. Elizabeth was widowed in 1889 when "Billy" was six weeks old. Nine children = eight boys and one girl, Lydia." Written in pen. Copy may have been written by Phyllis Vaniman, daughter of Lydia." A studio portrait (platinotype) of Elizabeth Oppa Erbes, mother of Ernest and Otto Erbes. The Erbes brothers were early settlers in the Thousand Oaks area.
