Description
Polish-born Shakespearean actress Helena Modjeska (1840-1909) kept a summer home in the Santa Ana Mountains from 1888 to 1906. It is located in the upper end of Santiago Canyon, which eventually became known as Modjeska Canyon. She named her mountain retreat the Forest of Arden, after the forest in Shakespeare's "As You Like It." The home is now an Orange County historical park.
