Description
Miss Carrie Swank, an employee of the Visalia Public Library (Visalia, CA), gave up her 30-year employment to retire in 1954. She came to the Visalia area in 1887 and attended Visalia schools. At 19, she started teaching in area schools, including Ivanhoe, White River, Woodlake (then called Antelope Valley), Lincoln Oval Primary, and Washington School. During her vacations, she worked as a substitute at the public library, and she accepted her permanent library position in 1924.
