Description
Full title:Isamu Oka saw a lot of Italy during the time he was on his feet with the 442nd Combat Team before he stepped on a lot of German hot metal near Siena on July 6, 1944. Now he is back at the Oka home near Los Gatos, California, Route 1, Box 265, wearing proudly a decoration and a Purple heart along side of his campaign ribbons. Isamu is a long way from recovered. He reports regularly to a veterans hospital for checkups. He is shown here with his father, Tosabure, John Akiyama, a neighbor and Takejiro Midoshima, a longtime friend of the family and without relatives in this country, who is making his home with the Okas. The Okas evacuated to Heart Mountain. The family were among the pioneers of relocation in Santa Clara County, having returned early this year. Photographer: Iwasaki, Hikaru Los Gatos, California.
