Description
Full title:Since relocating to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Mr. and Mrs. Tsunayoshi George Kaneda, Issei from the Rohwer Relocation Center and six of their seven children have been occupying an apartment at Fellowship House, known for its inter-racial activities sponsored by the Society of Friends. Only Mrs. Kaneda, Ruby, Kay, and Ben (from left to right) were home when this photograph was taken in their large living room. Mr. Kaneda was at his work as second chef at the Hotel Whittier. The other Kaneda children are Grayce, Toshio, Roy, and George, who was inducted into the Army in July 1944. Ruby and Roy attend high school; Grayce is a secretary for the Family Society of Philadelphia; Toshio and Kay have been holding summer jobs in Philadelphia pending their return to school in the fall; and Ben has been working in a factory while attending night school. The entire Kaneda family has taken an active interest in newcomers in Philadelphia, and at least several members of the family are usually to be found at social gatherings there for resettlers. Before evacuation the Kanedas lived in Stockton, California, where all the children were born. Photographer: Iwasaki, Hikaru Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
