A narrative, written shortly after the earthquake, describing its physical occurrence; the ensuing temporary relocation of Alexander and his family, along with other refugees, to Golden Gate Park.
Also includes narrative on crime, the imposition of martial law and the permanent relocation of Alexander and his family to Berkeley.
