Description
Firsthand account attributed to Leithead as experienced in San Francisco, from the day of the earthquake (Wed., Apr. 18) until the following Saturday. Describes damage to buildings, particularly to Leithead's place of employment in the Rialto building, the dynamiting of buildings to halt the spread of fire, and conditions under martial law. Describes living conditions for refugees, the poor state of communications, and Leithead's avoidance of being impressed for work.
