In a historical costume reenactment of a Gaspar de Portolá expedition, mounted Spaniards encounter North American Indian peoples outside of Los Angeles City Hall. Gaspar de Portolá was appointed Governor of Las Californias from 1768-1770. During that time, he expelled the Jesuits from Baja California and led expeditions by land and sea to settle colonies on the California coast.
