Description
Altar from El Día de los Muertos Exhibition 1977 at Galería de la Raza. Image is of a black coffin with a large ornate cross upright at the head. At the juncture of the cross is a sacred heart with thorns around it. Horizontal axis of cross reads, "Teofila Mateos", and the vertical axis reads, "el 2 de Nov de 1972". On top of the coffin rest various objects. Among them are a sheet of papel picado with Posada's "La Catrina", another cross, a full ceramic bowl, and a tray with pan de muertos. The edge of the coffin is trimmed with marigold. All around the coffin on the floor are branches. Pieces of a white picket fence surround the coffin.
