Accession number: P910 One postcard donated by Elva Haskett; second postcard donated by Myrtle Clemmer, 1970. Center Street, Anaheim, looking northwest from intersection of Los Angeles St. (now Anaheim Blvd.), Anaheim; image shows large flagpole in center of intersection, with business buildings along Center St., identified left to right as H.N. White Hardware, Palm Restaurant, Cherry Blossom Confectionery, the Weber's Book and Music Store, and Mullinex Drugstore in the Kraemer Building, and the First National Bank at far right; several automobiles visible driving down Center Street, and parked diagonally along curb; streetlight pole visible in right foreground; flagpole, originally presented in 1918 to Anaheim by William E. Alexander (president of Union Brewing Co.), with flag donated by Julilan O. Royer; in 1924 pole was taken down by Anaheim City Council as traffic hazard; due to petition submitted by citizens, flagpole was reinstalled on April 24, 1925, with additional golden eagle emblem donated by W.H. Kennedy; flagpole removed again in 1935 and stored in Kemp Street pump house; rediscovered in 1981 and reinstalled in front of Carnegie Library on July 4, 1981, and later repositioned in front of Veteran's Memorial on Anaheim Blvd.
