Description
Photograph of the Ainsworth House, a Victorian Queen Anne style home, located at 414 East Chapman Avenue, Orange, California, taken in July, 2003. The house was built in 1910 by Louis Ainsworth (1829-1914) as a retirement home for him and his wife, Persis. It was designed by their daughter, Ina Butler, and reflects their personal choices in a variety of architectural elements. After Louis' death in 1914, Persis Ainsworth continued to live here until 1933. At that time it was placed in trust for their granddaughter, Lewina Butler, who lived here until 1975. The city of Orange purchased the house in 1976 for a museum, but this use was impacted by the lack of available parking.
