Description
Cap from the Yurok or Hupa region. Made of grass fibers, brachen fern, and willow cane. Brown round basket, bowl shaped. These caps were worn low on the forehead while carrying a burden basket. They were used to reduce the potential chaffing caused from the strap of the basket pulled against the head. The geometric patterns and symbols woven into the baskets indicate clan lineage.
