Black-and-white photograph of Agnews Asylum under construction. Agnews was a state institution for the mentally ill completed in 1888 at a cost of $750,000. It had a frontage of 750 feet, and housed over 900 patients. It was the predecessor of the current Agnews Developmental Center.
