Description
George Washington Bicentennial Tree Planting Certificate, 1932.The tree-planting ceremony took place on Mount Tamalpais, at the close of the Mountain Play performance of Rob Roy in 1932. This year was the bicentennial of George Washington's birth; the American Tree Association celebrated by issuing certificates to individuals and groups who planted a tree in honor of Washington. Rob Roy was the nineteenth annual Mountain Play. The Mountain Play Association began its annual production in an outdoor amphitheater on top of Mount Tamalpais, Marin County, in 1913. Shows run for several weekends, beginning each May. This certificate is from a collection of scrapbooks, deposited with the California Room in 1975, by Mountain Play Association Director, Marion Hayes Cain.
