Description
Beatriz Michelena, as Marguerite, with unidentified actors in the California Motion Picture Corporation (CMPC) production of Faust, a cinematic re-telling of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's original tale of the same name. The CMPC filmed their production in late 1916, however due to cost overruns it was never released. Part of the extra costs were due to the in-camera trick photography used, such as the multiple exposures in this scene. Select scenes were harvested and used in the 1919 film production of The Eternal Mephisto, later re-titled The Price Woman Pays. The CMPC was located in the Sun Valley neighborhood of San Rafael, Marin County, between 1914 and 1921. The studio produced 15 films, including Salomy Jane, which survives in its entirety in the Library of Congress archives.
