Description
A view of the Brand mansion’s solarium or interior patio. All of the rooms of the mansion were arranged around this central solarium. The other rooms connected to it via interior leaded-glass windows or doors. This room was a favorite for the Brands. The ceiling frame is fitted with panes of glass and clerestory windows surround the room’s perimeter. The wall panels with exposed semicircular framing include painted stencil patterns. Potted plants adorn the floor and hang from the ceiling trusses. The floor is scored concrete meant to resemble tile with a decorative rug in the center. There are several rocking chairs, and a table. The carved wood fireplace in the reception hall is double-sided so that the reverse side is visible in the solarium. A page from Miradero, a book consisting of views of the home of Leslie C. Brand in Glendale, Calif., and of the surrounding area. Caption title.
