Description
The City of Commerce began its own library operations on Washington Blvd. in a rented duplex, July, 1961. (from image verso). Conferring, from left, are Phyllis Gray, the chief librarian, Norma Mason, a library staffer, and Mary Sims, assistant librarian. This location later served as the library's administrative office and the technical library maintained for use by local businesses and industry. Before she came to Commerce, Gray had 11 years experience in library work, including serving as the supervising librarian for extension services at the Santa Clara Library. She earned degrees from Barry College in Florida and Catholic University in Washington, D.C.
