Train on the Mount Tamalpais & Muir Woods Railroad traveling downhill, passengers looking out the back of the train crossing a wooden trestle. The Mill Valley-Mount Tamalpais Railway was the dream of Sidney Cushing. In the 1880's his father, Dr. John Cushing, had homesteaded in the Blithedale area of Mill Valley. Sidney Cushing formed a company to build a railway to the summit of Mount Tamalpais. The railroad was known as "the crookedest railroad in the world." It ran from 1896 to 1930.
