Description
Color slide of a Standard Oil Gas Station sign in Mission Viejo, California. The gas station is located on the corner of La Paz Road and Chrisanta Drive. The actual station is to the right of the sign in the photograph, but it is hidden behind a wall. The gas station sign is on a tall pole and reads "Standard" in black letters. It has a white background, and beneath the word "Standard" are two "V" shaped stripes; the top one is blue, the bottom one is red. In the background of the photograph is a long, two-story building with a Spanish-tile roof. This building is the La Paz Medical-Dental Center. Between the building and the gas station is a large parking lot filled with cars. The street in the foreground is La Paz Road. Also in the foreground is a mission-bell style street light that is characteristic of the street lights throughout Mission Viejo. Another feature of Mission Viejo design is the wall on the street corner. Many major intersections of the city have such a wall on at least one corner. The wall is curved, composed of white brick with a beige brick trim on top; on each end of the wall is a brick newel post that has a white, spherical finial cap. The frame of the slide has 2 labels attached; the top one reads "Standard Gas Sta., La Paz, A-2 #124," the bottom one reads "OC-030, Frame 019."
