Description
Color slide of the signs of four retail businesses at La Paz Plaza in 1969 in Mission Viejo, California. The sign shown in the top left corner of the photograph reads, "Hair Fashions." The sign is round with the word "Hair" along the top of the circle, the word "Fashions" along the bottom of the circle, and an illustration of a woman's face in the center. The woman in the illustration has long hair with curly locks at the end and a pink flower over her ear. There are no words legible on the sign in the upper right corner of the photograph, but the sign might be for a hardware store. This sign has cut-out shapes of a shovel, a hammer, pliers, etc. placed inside an oval ring. Over the top of the oval ring is decorative, cut-out vine leafing. At the bottom of the ring is the shape of a ribbon; the name of the establishment might be on that ribbon design, but it is not legible. The sign on the bottom left side of the photograph reads "Carriage Trade Fabrics" in Old English lettering. There is an illustration of an English style horse drawn carriage above the words of the sign. The sign in the lower right corner of the photograph replicates a wooden-handled cleaver. On the blade of the cleaver is an illustration of a steer. There are no words on this sign, but it could represent a meat market or butcher. Each of the signs is hanging from two chains. On the frame of the slide are two labels: one reads, "76-025, Frame 002," the other reads, "C-2 #171." Stamped on the bottom of the frame is "APR 69H8."
